Adopt
Adopt A Pet, Expand your family
At the Henry County Humane Society, animals come to us through different circumstances: cases of cruelty, owner surrenders, or transfers from other agencies. Some of these animals require extra care and a special adopter, and we work hard to make sure they find their perfect match. Our main goal is to make the transition and adoption process smooth and successful for every furry friend who comes through our doors. Your dedication means the world to us. Each animal in our care is ready to bring joy into your home. Let us guide you in welcoming your newest family member with open arms.
The process to Adopt
Step 1
Begin your adoption journey by submitting an ONLINE application for a Dog or Cat – an exciting first step towards welcoming a furry friend into your home! Processing typically takes up to 2 weeks, subject to staffing and application volume. Call Henry County Humane Society for status updates. You must be 18 or older to adopt. All applications need to be filled out with the potential adopters information. Thank you for your understanding.
Step 2
The second step towards your adoption journey is to book an appointment for an animal introduction. When you arrive for your appointment HCHS staff will introduce you to the adoptable animal(s) that you are interested in. If you currently have a dog(s) in the home a meet and greet appointment will also need to be made before the adoption process can continue.
Step 3
Happy adoption day! The day of your visit, you will meet with an HCHS staff member to go over the adoption form, your new pet’s medical history, and go over any questions you may have. Each animal receives a medical exam, age-appropriate vaccines, and spay/neuter surgery before they are available for adoption. if the animal is not old enough or medically healthy enough for spay/neuter surgery a spay/neuter contract will be used to ensure the surgery occurs when applicable and full ownership will be transferred when the surgery is complete.
After completing your adoption, you’ll take your first family photo with your new addition before taking your new pet home!
